The Journey

Dreaming, planning, designing, making a real house plan, and finally sending those plans off to someone who could engineer and make it a reality is a process that has been in the works for around 10 years. We have been talking about our dream house for a long time. The things we wanted in it and how it would be laid out… There has been a LOT of research over the last few years and technology has altered how we thought about some things.

Geothermal energy, in floor heating, solar panels, but the big change in the grand scheme of things is the ICF blocks. Building a house out of styrofoam is a huge departure from the mass of wood that was envisioned 10 years ago. Or even 5 years ago when we were looking into panel building, where trucks full of walls are delivered and lowered into place.

We have ordered blocks, designed kitchen and bathrooms, picked out cabinets, flooring, and light fixtures. Interviewed dozens of contractors for all the different jobs. The list goes on and on. We are ready for our dream house! Probably, maybe? Let’s check the list again!
